#Perfect10Diet - Our First TwitChat Was a Success!

Posted by KatMeyer

Tagged in: perfect 10 diet

Yes, I am happy to say that the inaugural #Perfect10Diet twitchat this past Sunday was great fun, and we all had a really good time sharing tips on exercise, diet dos and don'ts, and most of all FOOD (have already tried out a few of the recipes that were shared)! Still not sure if scheduling it at the same time as the SuperBowl helped, or hurt attendance, but the many of us who were participating in the chat, were keeping one eye on the game, too! We even got our own coupon code: TWEETBOWL. If you order a copy (or a few copies!) of The Perfect 10 Diet from the website, you can use the code "TWEETBOWL" to get a 20% discount. The offer is good through February 14th!

Tweets were flying fast and furiously from 8pm to 9pm ET, and the hour really went by in a flash. It was a great way to get to know our fellow (mostly sister, actually) dieters, hear what their experiences with P10 have been so far, and even encourage a few visitors to give it a try. Why, we even had a visit from the fantastic Mollie Katzen (whose cookbooks fit right in line with the P10 way of eating).

Lots of very good news coming from the frontlines -- Kirsten Hamstra (@kirsten) and Laura Dawson (@LJNDawson) reporting feeling much more energetic and already losing pounds. Dominique Raccah (@DRaccah) is well on her way to a very happy wedding anniversary celebration -- she'll be sporting her skinny jeans! And it was wonderful to hear that Kalen Landow (@Kalenski) is having no trouble at all making the diet work within the parameters of her food allergies.

An Introduction and an Interesting Study from the CDC

Tagged in: perfect 10 diet

Hi Perfect 10ers!

Hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year and is on their way to Perfect 10 health! I wanted to introduce myself: my name is Lyron Bennett and I am going to be the lead question wrangler and head cheerleader for you folks. I am the one who will be answering all of your questions and just generally cheering you along on this journey. I will be posting answers to your questions as they come in (if I know the answer) or quickly afterward (if we need to consult Dr. Aziz). We are starting to get great community response both here and on the Facebook page (and I know many of you are following us on Twitter as well) and I just wanted to say…Thank You!!! More recipes will be coming this week too! Stay tuned. The other thing that I wanted to share with you was the recently released comprehensive study on Obesity in America done by the CDC (which can be found here: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/index.html) which has some profoundly disturbing news in it. The study states that “one out of every three American adults is obese, and two out of every three are overweight” and that children’s predisposition to obesity have increased dramatically in the last 25 years. Along with this increase in weight has come an increase in heart disease and diabetes, along with a myriad other health problems.

The CDC study is both informative and frightening, and should prove a great resource for people like school superintendents and policy makers looking to help change the way their communities eat while at community events or in school, but for the rest of America there are some things this study leaves out:

The Perfect 10 Diet and Farm-raised salmon

Question from a Perfect 10 Dieter: Is it okay to eat farm-raised salmon?

Dr. Aziz's Answer: Thanks for your question! Major studies have concluded that people shouldn't eat farm-raised salmon more than once a month in most cases because the fish contains long-lived industrial chemicals that increase the risk of cancer. Wild salmon carry lower levels of PCBs, dioxins and other contaminants. The average dioxin level in farm-raised salmon was 11 times higher than in wild salmon. These contaminants disrupt hormones and have serious health risks. Farm raised salmon also has added colors (to give it that orange appearance) and contains less omega 3-fatty acids than wild salmon. Also, stick with the seafood choices recommended on the Perfect 10 Diet in order to limit mercury exposure. Best of luck on your journey to perfect 10 health!

The Perfect 10 Diet and PCOS

Posted by Dr. Aziz

Perfect 10 Diet Question: Can you tell me how this diet would benefit someone with PCOS? Thank you very much for your time.

Thank you for your question regarding the Perfect 10 Diet and PCOS. The Perfect 10 Diet is great for polycytic ovary syndrome also known as PCOS. No one knows for sure the exact cause of PCOS. PCOS is a condition of insulin resistance, together with a high testosterone level. It is estimated that 5-10% of women in the US are affected. Symtoms of PCOS include weight gain, acne, irregular periods, fatigue, excessive body hair, and infertility. Women with PCOS are at great risk to develop type 2 diabetes by 40 % by age 40. They are also at greater risk to develp endometrial cancer.
Doctors treat the disease with contraceptive pills, drugs that increase insulin sensitivity such as Metformin, and pills to decrease testosterone levels such as spironolcatone.
The right diet should be a key part of PCOS management. The Perfect 10 Diet targets several of the hormones affected in PCOS and the condition and supplements are discussed in the book. The mainstream "low-fat/high-carb diet" leads to increased insulin secretions and actually worsens the condition. While low-carb diets address insulin resistance by avoiding carbs, they pose additional cancer risk by encouraging the wrong types of protein choices such as processed meats. Processed meats have been linked to many types of gastrointestinal cancers. The Perfect 10 Diet's principles are brand new and have never been made public before. The Perfect 10 Diet addresses insulin resistance, as well as abnormal sex hormones caused by consuming the wrong types of fats, excess sugar.

By targeting insulin and sex hormones, the Perfect 10 Diet can truly help you and make a signficant difference in your life. However, I do encourage you to follow up with your physician since additional supplements and drugs may be needed. Best of luck and wishes for perfect 10 health.

Thank you,

Starting Stage 1

Tagged in: perfect 10 diet

Stage One (Initiation)
Stage One of the Perfect 10 Diet will last approximately 3 weeks, and most people will lose an average of 10 to 14 pounds during this time. That’s a lot of weight in a short period of time, but don’t be alarmed about your initial results. Some of the weight loss in this stage is water. Later on, your weight will go down at a slower pace. During this stage, you’ll eat 3 meals a day, and you’ll also have the option to eat 1 to 2 snacks a day on the days you work out or if you’re hungry.

Welcome to the Perfect 10 Diet Blog

To get to this day, to the launch of the Perfect 10 Diet website and soon to the published book, has been a long journey, but one that was certainly worth every step it took to get here.  I am incredibly excited to be able to now share my diet—a breakthrough plan that will help you control health and weight—to a much broader audience.

The Perfect 10 Diet, published by Sourcebooks, will be in stores in mid-January, but my mission to help people, to help my patients, started years ago when I discovered, as a doctor just out of medical school and working in a private practice, that the nutritional guidelines put forth by the mainstream medical community and the government were not helping the patients coming to me with serious chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, elevated cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.
